A Derry-based aquarium engineering and manufacturing company is set to build a significant new aquarium in Southeast Asia, thanks to a seven figure HSBC UK Trade Finance package.

ELSS Engineering, which specialises in large scale aquarium design, engineering, manufacturing and operation management, will use the funding package as a financial guarantee to begin the construction of the major aquarium project in Southeast Asia.

The ELSS team will be involved in the design, manufacture and installation of the aquarium on the ground in Singapore.

Founded in 2005, ELSS has now completed projects in six continents and 37 countries including SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the largest aquarium in the world. The multi-million Dollar contract is due for completion later this year.

Jeffrey Martin McAteer, Chair of the Board of Directors at ELSS Engineering Ltd, said: “The Board of Directors are excited to have secured this exciting new contract in Singapore thanks to HSBC’s international banking capabilities. Being able to operate on a global scale allows us to work on some of the largest aquariums around the world. Through our work we hope to show younger generations the varied career possibilities engineering can bring!”

Lauren Dougherty, Relationship Director at HSBC UK, said: “It has been great to have been able to cement ELSS Engineering’s position on the global stage and help facilitate a new contract in Singapore. We are excited to continue supporting its success as it works on projects around the world.”

The HSBC UK Trade Finance guarantee was backed by UKEF.
