Novo Nordisk cancels Dublin factory plan

The Denmark-based pharmaceutical conglomerate has dropped plans to build a plant that was set to be located in West Dublin, reported the Sunday Times.

The new plant, which was expected to be 147,00sqm based in Grande Castle business park in Clondalkin, had the potential to create up to 1,100 jobs.

Novo Nordisk announced its decision in a statement to the Sunday Times but did state that it plans to create more jobs at its Athlone facility, which employs 400 people.

Novo Nordisk is a $643.4bn pharmaceutical corporation known for manufacturing and distributing diabetes and weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. The company reportedly agreed to pay €51 million last summer to South Dublin County Council to acquire the 85-acre West Dublin site but now is withdrawing its planning applications.
