Redundancies continue across Northern Ireland’s materials processing sector

Finland-based company MPP Group has confirmed the redundancies of 60-70 jobs across its Northern Ireland operations over recent months, The Irish News reported.

Redundancies continue across Northern Ireland

The companies that have announced these redundancies include Dungannon-based mobile crushing corporation McCloskey; Omagh-based Tesab Engineering; and Newbridge-based Tedd Engineering. All three companies are subsidiaries of MPP Group.

MPP group may have been hit by a slowdown in its Northern American markets, leading to the large redundancies in the materials processing sectors. Sales have reportedly suffered in the high interest environment of the US.

The Irish News claims that the slowdown in the materials handling sector could be felt in the Co Tyrone and Mid Ulster engineering clusters - as more firms move to reduce their working hours.

McCloskey sources claim to have achieved their workforce cuts with voluntary redundancies and employee attrition in the past months. It is believed, however, that a small number of compulsory redundancies may be handed out.

The news comes shortly after Terex recently let go of 150 employees in the Summer, and further reducing its workforce hours in Northern Ireland last month.
