The project has been consented for development by Wexford County Council.
The Richfield Solar Farm will be installed in the townlands of Hooks and Yoletown, on land near SSE’s 18-turbine Richfield wind park at Bridgetown in County Wexford. The proposed solar plant will share the grid connection with the 27-MW wind turbine complex, which has been generating electricity since 2006.
SSE Renewables lodged its planning application for the solar project in September last year. The company said the delivery of the scheme will depend on securing an economic route to market and reaching a final investment decision. Permits will also be required to dynamically share the current export capacity of the existing wind farm.
If built, the Richfield solar park will produce power to cover the consumption of about 4,500 Irish homes annually. The wind farm already supplies 18,000 homes with green electricity.
